about

As many of you will probably know, before I was Scott Diaz I went under the name Scott Tonic to play and produce UK garage. I recently discovered some older tracks on a forgotten hard drive and for Bandcamp Friday I thought it would be nice to share them with you all. ‘Vaults Volume 1’ features 5 tracks that I made between 2005-2008 and that were either unreleased or previously only available on vinyl. These are all yours to download for free, although if you feel they’re worth something and want to pay something, then that is certainly appreciated. :-)

Here’s a few words about each of the tracks:

‘Feel So Right’ (previously unreleased).
I must have made this around 2006 and I’m not sure why it never came out. I think I probably wasn’t entirely happy with the mix and so it got left and forgotten about. Not sure where the vocal is from but I’d imagine it’s an acapella I downloaded from Traxsource.

’The Funk’
I made this in 2006, originally as a Scott Tonic record, although it ended up being released in 2008 as a Kings Of Swing collaboration to fit on ‘The Music's Got Me’ EP. At that time I was starting to move more into house territory and had begun working with Matt Jam Lamont. That EP is now selling for £40 on Discogs so I’m sure some of you will be pleased to be able to grab this digitally.

‘Headlock’ (Dub)
I put out a 2-step version of this in 2007 which was quite well received and so AIM Records reached out to me the following year to see if I’d be up for pressing it to vinyl. I said yes and offered to do a dub for the b-side, which turned out to be a smart move because actually I feel this version turned out better than the original.

‘Hold On’
Originally released on Tantalise Recordings on vinyl back in 2007. I always liked this. There was an unreleased dub version that was similar to this with less vocals and some alternative sample cuts, but unfortunately the file was corrupted on an old CD and so wasn’t salvageable.

‘Give It 2 U’ (previously unreleased).
From memory I made this in 2005. I always liked the bassline and the vocal cuts, but had an issue with my computer at the time and so lost this Logic file. This version here is the only bounce of it that remained.

I hope you can forgive these being a bit rough around the edges in places - my ears and production skills in the mid-2000’s were not what they are today, and with them all being 15/16 years old I obviously don’t have access to the projects or parts which are long gone. So I’ve tried my best to give each of the tracks a little love and a basic remaster and done what I can with what was available.

Big love,

Scott
